The
Workmen's Circle is a national organization founded in 1900 that
seeks to promote Jewish particularly Yiddish culture with a progressive
social vision. The LA branch, known as the Karl Liebknecht Branch
248, was established in 1908 and has been in continuous operation
since, reflecting the immigrant roots of LA's early Jewish population.
In addition to providing child and adult camps, the Workmen's Circle
has been an active force for worker and civil rights and features
art exhibits at its Shenere Velt Gallery. The building features
a mural documenting the centuries old Jewish struggle and its link
to social justice. |
